The Michigan Water Ski Association is an USA Water Ski Association affiliated
organization that is dedicated to promoting, supporting, and educating all organized
disciplines in the sport of water skiing in the State of Michigan.
Anyone who has participated in an organized club in the sport of water skiing
knows that more is involved than simply grabbing some equipment and getting pulled
behind a boat. Most water ski enthusiasts know that there is much more to it than
that.
There are rules and regulations that must be abided by in order to keep things
safe for everyone on the water. There is also plenty of planning needed before
multi-person ski organizations are ready to hit the water.
So, are you interested in learning more and getting the most possible out of the
sport that you love? Being a member of the Michigan Water Ski Association will
help you do just that.
The Michigan Water Ski Association (MWSA) is recognized by the state as the
governing body of water skiing in Michigan. It currently has over 500 members
and includes over fifty clubs. Membership to the MWSA is beneficial to both
tournament and recreational skiers, providing its members with the chance to
learn more and support the sport of water skiing. One of the benefits with
membership is gaining legislative information about the sport.
There is a legislative committee which works with the state regarding current
laws concerning all water sports. They discuss topics like keeping the water ways
open, restricted lake hours, flotation rules, and overall safety, just to name a
few. In addition, members of MWSA are provided with the opportunity to get training
on becoming instructors, judges, scorers, drivers, or safety coordinators, if they
desire to.
Another responsibility of this association is to organize the state tournaments
for each of the sport divisions. The different sport divisions include the following:
3 event, show skiing, barefoot, wakeboard, ski racing, kneeboard, collegiate, disabled,
and junior development.
All of the sport divisions of the MWSA are affiliated with and governed by the
USA Water Ski Association, which is the national governing body of water skiing.
The MWSA has a state representative for each sport division who keeps in contact
with the USA Water Ski Association and stays updated with their current rules and
regulations. They then relay their newest findings to the members of MWSA so that
everyone is following the correct specifications for their particular division.
Also, the boat drivers for each organized event in each sport division are trained
in accordance with the USA Water Ski Association.
As you can now see, there is much more involved with the sport of water skiing
than simply the skiing aspect. Being a member of the Michigan Water Ski Association
will help teach you all the other aspects that you want and need to know in order
to stay safe, have FUN, and get the most out of the sport of water skiing. The
MWSA was designed and is dedicated to that purpose.
